MEET RONALD CYRILLE

ART

Ronald Cyrille's upbringing on the island of Dominica, shaped by the landscapes, locales, and cultural heritage of his Dominican mother and Guadeloupean father, laid the foundation for his artistic journey. Upon settling in Guadeloupe, he delved into drawing, crafting illustrations, comic strips, and beloved cartoon characters. Following his secondary education, Ronald pursued a master's degree in visual arts at the Campus Caribéens des Arts de la Martinique in 2012, earning acclaim as a winner of the "Jam Session" for emerging talents from Martinique. Returning to Guadeloupe, he further distinguished himself by clinching the Start Prize from the Departmental Council of Guadeloupe in the visual arts category. Embracing the dynamic ethos of street art, Ronald's studio practice over the past decade has been profoundly influenced by this movement. With a global outlook and a penchant for cultural enrichment, he seeks to extend the reach of his art beyond conventional boundaries. Ronald seamlessly navigates between the realms of vandal art and formal art education, drawing inspiration from hip-hop culture and the rich tapestry of West Indian folklore. His artistic prowess has been showcased in numerous exhibitions over the years, culminating in an invitation to serve as an artist for the 2022-2023 cultural season at MACTe, a testament to his creative ingenuity and cultural resonance.
